The drowning beautiful

It isn’t often that an artist creates something that is so simple, yet so profound. Artist Jason de Caires Taylor’s concept of underwater sculptures in one such idea that moves the mind in so many different directions. By submerging concrete life-size sculptures of human beings in South African waters, he creates a one-of-a-kind experience, an underwater installation that has a unique, absorbing and expansive visual seascape. With time, sea-life merges with the concrete, making these statues a part of the underwater world and blurring the line between what’s organic and what isn’t. Making the natural ecological process a part of the creative process, Jason explores the intricate relationship between art and the environment.
